What it is.

Stripe is a payment processing platform through which your business accepts credit cards, debit cards, and bank transfers online. The customer pays on your website or invoice; Stripe collects the funds, takes its fee, and deposits the remainder to your US business bank account, typically within 2 business days.

It is the default for online commerce in the US: e-commerce stores, SaaS subscriptions, marketplaces, freelance invoicing, donation pages. The integration is designed to join a website with minimal engineering, and the Stripe Dashboard attends to refunds, disputes, and reporting.

What it lets you do.

Stripe is more than a single payment button. The platform opens a stack of capabilities every modern business has come to expect.

  • Accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover, plus regional cards in 195 countries
  • Subscription billing for SaaS, memberships, and recurring services
  • Payment links, invoices, and hosted checkout pages with no engineering
  • Direct integration with Shopify, WooCommerce, Squarespace, and most CMS platforms
  • Stripe Connect for marketplaces and platforms that pay out to multiple parties
  • Real-time fraud detection and chargeback management built in

All of this behaves the same whether your customer is in the US or abroad. Stripe attends to the currency conversion in the background.

How we set it up.

We begin by confirming your business model is supported by Stripe (the platform restricts certain high-risk industries). We then open the account under your US entity, link it to your business bank account, and see the verification through.

Once the account is live, we hand off the integration: you may use Stripe's hosted checkout pages as they come, or we can introduce you to the right developer or platform should you want a bespoke integration. Most clients are accepting payments within a week of beginning the process.

  • EIN and formation documents
  • US business bank account (we open this first if you don't have one)
  • Business website or product description
  • Government-issued ID for the account owner

Questions

Frequently asked

Do I need a US bank account before opening Stripe?

Yes. Stripe deposits payouts directly into a US bank account in the company's name. We typically open the bank account first, then connect Stripe to it.

Can a non-resident founder open a Stripe account?

Yes. Stripe accounts are tied to the US entity, not to the founder's nationality. As long as the LLC or Corporation is properly formed and has an EIN, the founder's residency does not block the account.

What businesses can use Stripe?

Most legitimate online businesses. Stripe maintains a list of restricted industries (some types of financial services, gambling, and others). We confirm your business model is supported before starting the application.

How long does setup take?

Once your bank account is ready, the Stripe account itself can typically be activated in 1 to 3 business days. Verification of bank linkage and identity may add another few days.

What does Stripe charge?

Stripe charges per-transaction fees (typically 2.9% + 30¢ for US online card payments, with international and currency-conversion fees added when applicable). There are no monthly fees on the standard plan.
